It’s not a secret that the 2026 season for the New York Mets has been a complete and total disaster. While things aren’t going well, the Mets are trending towards selling at the MLB trade deadline.

If such a scenario comes to pass, there’s sure to be a lot of attention on Freddy Peralta, the Mets ace who is a free agent after the 2026 season. While he’s an obvious trade candidate, what could the Mets get in return for him in a trade?

According to Robert Murray of Fansided.com, the Mets got an interesting series of projected returns from a pair of MLB executives for Peralta. Both are solid packages, with one being clearly better than the other.

Mets get projected trade value for Freddy Peralta by MLB execs

“Either 1. A backend top-100 and a. throw in, or 2. Two top-10 org prospects,” one MLB executive answered.

Another MLB executive said, “First off, I’d say he’s going to have more suitors than Tarik Skubal because of his prorated $8 million salary compared to Skubal at $32 million… I think at least one top-50 prospect and more likely two top-100s.

Both of these predicted trade values for Peralta, the two-time All-Star ace on an $8 million contract set to hit free agency after 2026, are solid return options for the Mets.

Being able to bring in at least a top-100 prospect if they trade Peralta seems likely based on these predictions. That is some good news for the Mets.

The second executive, noting that Peralta might have more trade suitors than the Detroit Tigers could for Tarik Skubal, is the much more tantalizing prediction for the Mets.

Having the top starting pitcher available on the trade market is a recipe for success and a very strong return. Teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays, San Diego Padres, and many others are sure to have interest.

With both of these MLB executives predicting returns to include a top-100 prospect, or the equivalent of such a valuable prospect, it is something to get excited about.

Trading Peralta is less than ideal for the Mets. But, since it’s trending towards the right-hander being on the move this season, the Mets might as well try for the best return possible, which, at this rate, might be a little more than a top-100 prospect.
