Even though Subnautica 2 is in early access, there are still hundreds of mods that players can download to customize their save file. Just like in the original Subnautica and the sequel, Below Zero, mod creators have come up with a slew of mods that aim to enhance a player’s experience. From quality-of-life changes to full-on gameplay alterations, the mod lists for Subnautica 2 on Nexus Mods and CurseForge are growing by the day.
While you can sift through both websites and look for mods that seem interesting, we’ve gone ahead and given you a head start. Below, you’ll find 10 of the best mods for Subnautica 2 that the community currently has to offer. However, with the survival game still in early access, mods will continue to be added to the list as Subnautica 2 develops.
Console Commands

- Created by: uregven
- Download link: Nexus Mods
In the vanilla version of Subnautica 2, console commands are not enabled, meaning you can’t press the “~” key to bring up the command menu. However, with the Console Commands mod, you have full access to it, allowing you to modify your gameplay in any way you see fit. This includes enabling certain cheats, altering how the world and creatures react and behave, spawning in specific items, and so on.
Simple Minimap

- Created by: jsthope
- Download link: Nexus Mods
It’s no secret to anyone who’s played Subnautica 2 that there is no mini-map available, or map at all, for that matter. If you want to know where you’re going and where you’ve been, though, you can download the Simple Minimap mod. This adds a blackened mini map in the top-right corner at the start of a playthrough. From there, the mini map is uncovered through a fog of war system as you uncover new areas in the game. This way, you can track where you’ve been instead of being given the entire map for free.
Killable Creatures

- Created by: jibotron
- Download link: Nexus Mods
The ability to kill creatures in Subnautica 2 has been the topic of many debates in the community since the game’s release. While veterans of the franchise know this is just how Subnautica operates, newer players want a way to defend themselves against the huge Leviathans that terrorize certain parts of the map. If you have the desire to eliminate the native life in Subnautica 2, then the Killable Creatures mod is how you can do it. This mod just allows the Sonar Resonator to instantly kill any creature in front of its blast.
Fin Faster

- Created by: Caites
- Download link: Nexus Mods
Movement in Subnautica 2 can be extremely limited, even after you unlock better fins and the Wakemaker. While those upgrades allow you to move faster, you can still feel like you’re swimming in mud compared to speeding around in the Tadpole. Fortunately, the Fin Faster mod improves your movement speed with both fin upgrades and the Wakemaker. It’s not a flat boost to your movement speed without those upgrades, though, so there’s still some work to do on your part.
Not Only Titanium

- Created by: rand0m16FX
- Download link: Nexus Mods
While you can certainly find plenty of resources by searching hard enough in Subnautica 2, it would be nice if there were a secondary way to loot rarer resources. Enter the Not Only Titanium mod. This mod allows you to loot other random resources aside from Titanium when you scan a blueprint that you have already unlocked. So, if you scan a Wakemaker fragment when you’ve already built it, you’ll get random resources instead of the regular Titanium drop.
Extra Biomod Slots

- Created by: Kallie23
- Download link: Nexus Mods
The addition of Biomod slots and Adaptations in Subnautica 2 is a breath of fresh air, as they provide you with some RPG elements to take advantage of. Unfortunately, you don’t have too many Biomod slots to use by default, so download the Extra Biomod Slots mod to use however many you want. You unlock Biomods by progressing the story, so you’ll still have to play the game to make full use of the mod, but now you can equip the maximum amount as you unlock new ones.
Faster Metal Farm

- Created by: KarstyKarl
- Download link: Nexus Mods
The Metal Farm was a fantastic addition to Subnautica 2, giving you a real opportunity to farm precious resources right at your base. However, the Metal Farm produces resources quite slowly by default, so why not speed it up? The Faster Metal Farm mod speeds up the production of resources by a factor of 10, allowing you to quickly obtain dozens and dozens of whatever resource you’re farming.
Biomod Active Camouflage

- Created by: Dandelion
- Download link: Nexus Mods
The Pathfinder Biomod in Subnautica 2 is good, but not nearly as good as Active Camouflage. With this mod, you can turn Pathfinder into the ability to become invisible for 60 seconds. This allows you not to be seen by any creatures or predators for a full minute, which can be invaluable when scouring the ocean depths for resources or a new blueprint.
SeaSprint

- Created by: MeAlam
- Download link: Nexus Mods
Not having the ability to sprint in Subnautica 2 often feels jarring, as you go to press your Left Shift button, but your character still moves at the same speed. The SeaSprint mod fixes that problem, giving you full capacity to sprint around when you’re on land or in your base. It should be noted that the official Subnautica 2 developers have stated a sprint ability is coming to the game in a future update, so this mod has a shelf life.
Passive Creatures

- Created by: ksxkshan
- Download link: Nexus Mods
The Leviathans and other hostile creatures aren’t some players’ favorite part about Subnautica 2, but what if they were purely for show? The Passive Creatures mod makes it so that every creature on Proteus doesn’t react to you, your vehicles, or any other movements you make. Basically, it’s like you’re playing in Creative Mode, but with every other restriction of regular Survival Mode.
Too Many Divers

- Created by: Zeusfail
- Download link: Nexus Mods
Subnautica 2 finally added the ability to play the game in co-op, but the maximum players you can have on a world at the same time is four. If you happen to have more than three friends that you want to play with at a single time, then you need the Too Many Divers mod. This expands the co-op player limit to 16, a huge jump from the original number. However, playing with that many players will likely come with significant performance issues, so be warned.
