As 007 First Light’s first 13 minutes leak online, IO Interactive drops official footage of the opening mission

IO Interactive has shared a portion of the opening mission from its upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light, after footage leaked online over the weekend.

Despite taking the offending video down via a copyright notice, the developer later decided to upload the opening 13 minutes of the game anyway, writing: “Since a few users got hold of the disc early, watch the first 13 minutes of the opening mission in 007 First Light, as intended on day one.”

As IO quite rightly pointed out when it shared the video, “spoilers ahead, so if you’d rather save it for the in-game experience, best steer clear!”

The video itself shows Bond’s helicopter shot down in a hail of bullets, and then tracks him as he sinks into the ocean. The player must wake him up, get some air, and then creep through enemy lines with a few Metal Gear Solid-esque stealth sequences.

“Last chance to Pre-order and get a free deluxe upgrade, including 24H early access,” the studio added.

IO Interactive recently said it expects and even welcomes controversy about the James Bond character it has created for 007: First Light. This Bond – played by Irish actor Patrick Gibson – is a new, younger take, and will chart the character’s rise from soldier to 00 agent.

“People having differing opinions about a James Bond: that’s great,” senior combat designer Tom Marcham told Eurogamer recently. “Everyone has their favourite Bond. If we made a Bond where no one had any opinions on them, it would be the dullest Bond ever made. So the fact that we’ve got a little controversy on that, I think it’s a good thing.”

007 First Light is out on 27th May, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S.
