Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week

TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Toronto Tech Week

Toronto Tech Week will see startups, business leaders and politicians gather for events across the city starting on Monday. Speakers expected to appear include Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke, Cohere co-founder Nick Frosst and AI Minister Evan Solomon.

Bank earnings

Canada’s biggest banks will report their latest quarterly results this week. Bank of Montreal, Scotiabank and National Bank of Canada are expected on Wednesday. CIBC, Royal Bank of Canada and TD Bank are scheduled for Thursday.

BRP results

BRP Inc. is expected to report its first-quarter results and hold its annual meeting of shareholders on Thursday. The Ski-Doo maker suspended its financial guidance last month when it said revised U.S. tariff rules were expected to cost it more than $500 million this year, before any mitigation measures.

Financial stability report

The Bank of Canada will release its financial stability report and financial system survey on Thursday followed by a news conference. The report comes ahead of the review of the trade agreement between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico that is expected to be a key factor for the future of the Canadian economy.

GDP report

Statistics Canada is set to release its latest figures for gross domestic product on Friday when it publishes its report for March and the first quarter as a whole. The agency’s initial estimates for March that it released last month suggested real GDP was essentially unchanged in the month, which would set the first quarter up for annualized growth of 1.7 per cent.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published May 24, 2026.
