February 16, 2026 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

Canada is committed to helping Canadians travel safely and providing timely support when they need it most.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) today released Canada’s Annual Consular Data Report  – 2024 to 2025, offering Canadians a behind-the-scenes look at the assistance GAC provided to Canadian travellers and families around the world over the last fiscal year.

The data shows the everyday consular work done by GAC officials abroad and in Canada. Over the last fiscal year, they helped Canadians around the world by:

  • issuing almost 210,000 travel documents to Canadians abroad.
  • responding to nearly 280,000 enquiries from Canadian travellers and their loved ones.
  • helping more than 7,000 Canadians who faced a range of situations while abroad including, medical emergencies, arrests and crimes.

The report also captures Canada’s response during major international emergencies, including in Haiti, New Caledonia and the Middle East, where assisted departures were organized for nearly 1,900 Canadians, permanent residents and their immediate family members.

Behind these numbers is a global network of dedicated professionals working at more than 260 points of service—embassies, high commissions, consulates, and Headquarters-based staff, including officials at the 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre—working around the clock to help Canadians navigate difficult and often stressful situations far from home. Consular officials provide guidance, coordinate with local authorities, reconnect families and support Canadians when they need it most.

The report is also a reminder of the tools available to help Canadians prepare before they travel. Resources on Travel.gc.ca, including the Travel Advice and Advisories by destination, Registration of Canadians Abroad service and Safe Travel Planner, help travellers make informed decisions and know how to reach Canadian officials if needed.

By publishing this report each year, GAC reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in the services provided to Canadians abroad.
