Burnham’s Manchester Vibes Quickly Hit Westminster Realities


Burnham, a cabinet minister during Gordon Brown’s premiership who left Westminster and reinvented himself as a firebrand left-winger during two terms as Manchester mayor, is the favorite to take over after Starmer’s leadership imploded in the wake of heavy local election losses earlier this month. Burnham has been described as England’s “King of the North,” a contrast to Starmer, a lawyer who was born south of London.
