Kwan Perng was one of the main writers on celebrated Destiny 2 expansion The Final Shape and Guild Wars 2 expansion End of Dragons, and now they’ll be the lead writer on CD Projekt Red’s multiplayer Witcher spin-off Project Sirius.
Perng announced the news via X and LinkedIn: “I’ve joined CD PROJEKT RED as the Lead Writer on Project Sirius. It will be some time before I can talk about the project, but in the meantime I’ve been immersing myself in the dark and eclectic universe of The Witcher. It’s humbling to get the opportunity to tell stories in this world and in the company of such talented developers.”
While known for the aforementioned Destiny 2 and Guild Wars 2 expansions – they served as narrative lead on both of them – they also worked on more DLC content for both online RPGs. Their most recent credit was on Eleventh Hour Games’ Last Epoch.
The timing of their recruitment by CD Projekt Red suggests Project Sirius is beefing up, and that doesn’t entirely come as a surprise. Last year, CDPR absorbed original studio The Molasses Flood (The Flame in the Flood), which was announced to be developing the game in 2022.
CD Projekt Red then rebooted the project in 2023, evidently not happy with the direction it was going in. Currently, CDPR headquarters in Poland is in full production on The Witcher 4, which won’t launch any sooner than 2027, though we have no release estimate other than that. Pre-production of Cyberpunk 2 is also under way at CDPR Boston in the US.
There is also the mysterious and much-rumoured Witcher 3 expansion in development, supposedly for release this year, although we’re yet to hear anything official about it. Will tomorrow’s Witcher 3 anniversary tell us any more?
