Abdoulaye Ndiaye Wins First Africa NextGen Economist Prize


Abdoulaye NDIAYE (NYU Stern) has been announced as the inaugural winner of the Africa NextGen Economist Prize.

The Announcement was made on X by the Africa CEO Forum, an international business and economics conference., which took place this year in Kigali, Rwanda.

Abdoulaye Ndiaye, from Senegal, is assistant professor at NYU Stern School of Business. He graduated from École Polytechnique and has a PhD from Northwestern University. His research focused on public finance, development economics, and political economy. He tackles questions of immediate relevance for African governments and investors: unemployment insurance in economies with high informality, tax productivity, and sovereign debt management.

The Africa NextGen Prize is a new initiative spearheaded by The Africa Report and Jeune Afrique. There were over 70 candidates across 14 African countries, which were analysed by an independent jury of leading African economists, Abdoulaye Ndiaye embodies what the prize set out to celebrate: rigorous, useful work oriented toward public action and serving citizens, decision-makers, and the private sector alike.
