Michelle Obama Dons Celine in New Podcast with Serena Williams

Michelle Obama strayed from her tried and true designers in the latest episode of her podcast, “IMO,” featuring Serena Williams.

The former first lady — known for being an avid fan of Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu — donned a black viscose dress by Celine, embellished with a trail of gold buttons down the skirt. Online, the ready-to-wear design, priced at $6,600, is pictured with a halterneck. However, Obama is seen wearing the dress tank top style.

Alongside her, Williams wore a chunky white cardigan layered over a steel blue draped minidress, cinched by a thin belt in the middle. The legendary tennis star’s blond braids were pulled off her face and fastened in rose buns on top of her head. Obama, similarly, tied her caramel-colored braids in two space buns behind her ears, leaving only a few curly strands tickling her cheeks.

Though the episode dropped on Wednesday, the power duo filmed live from the NBA All-star Mother’s Brunch in February, where they covered everything from their fertility journey to their parenting philosophy. At one point during the interview, Williams opened up about the early days of tennis training with her mother, Oracene Price.

“On my mom’s court, there were no games. I had to be serious, and I had to do all this stuff. But then looking back, I was able to see that she was able to instill so much mental toughness that I had that my sister [Venus] actually did not end up getting because I had to do so much. I had to work so hard. I had to do so many things on her court,” Williams said. “In the end, I was very grateful that I had that time with her to just focus on technique and focus on just not letting anything go.”

On whether or not her mom was able to balance being her coach with being her parent, Williams said she was there for it all. “I remember one time, when I was 89th in the world and everyone had written me off. I was like 20-something, and they said I would never win again. She told me in the final, before I played Maria Sharapova, she said, ‘You got this. You’re going to do this.’ And she told me exactly how to play. And I won in less than an hour. It was really genius. So, she was actually a great coach.”
