Courts: YVR, Air Canada being sued due to alleged injuries

Two Alberta residents have filed lawsuits against YVR and Air Canada.

Two people are suing the Vancouver International Airport, claiming they were hit by motorized passenger carts inside the airport.

Yue Wah Alex Law and Chun Mei Pi (also known as Jenny Pi) have filed separate claims against YVR for an incident that allegedly happened on Oct. 14, 2024.

Law, a pharmacist from Alberta, claims he was waiting at a gate at the airport to get on board an Air Canada flight when an airport employee “negligently” operated a motorized passenger cart and ran over him.

Pi, a small business owner from Alberta, also claims she was run over by a motorized passenger cart on the same day while waiting to board an Air Canada flight.

The claims were filed on April 24, and the Richmond News reached out to YVR for comment.

YVR, however, said it can’t comment on the “specifics” of the claims as they are now “part of a legal process.”

“However, speaking generally, the safety and security of our passengers, employees, and all those who use YVR is always our top priority,” a statement from YVR read.

Pi claims she suffered a left knee fracture, a tibial plateau fracture and a femoral fracture.

She also claims she suffered a wrist injury, headaches, blurriness in one eye, swelling, numbness, chronic pain, fatigue, low mood and frustration.

Meanwhile, Law claims he suffered shoulder and leg pain, headaches, swelling, numbness, loss of sleep, fatigue, low mood and frustration.

He claims he continues to suffer “pain, discomfort and inconvenience,” and “permanent partial disability,” as well as loss of housekeeping abilities, enjoyment of life and loss of amenities.

On top of the same claims as Law of pain, discomfort, partial disability, loss of housekeeping abilities and enjoyment of life, Pi claims she “continues to receive care and services of her family.”

Both Law and Pi claim the employee, “John or Jane Doe #1,” who was operating the motorized passenger cart failed to give warning, apply brakes or sound a horn.

Both Law and Pi are seeking general and special damages as well as general and special damages to be held in trust for their families.

The News also reached out to Air Canada but they said they couldn’t comment as the matter was before the courts.
