Michael Higgins: Report on October 7 sexual atrocities shames the world

The list of the 13 patterns give a sense of the barbarity, but do not come close to the horrors contained in the report: rape, gang rape, and other forms of sexual assault; sexual torture, including intentional burning and mutilation; deliberate shooting to the head, face, and genital area; killing and execution following or in conjunction with sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV); postmortem sexual abuse, humiliation, and desecration of bodies; forced nudity and exposure; handcuffing, binding, and restraint; public display and parading of women and children and the abduction of mothers and children; filming and digital dissemination of SGBV, including use of social media to document, glorify, and amplify the atrocities; threats of forced marriage and, finally, rape and other forms of sexual violence against boys and men.
