Photographer Steve Sheppard says he captured a particularly “lucky shot” in St. Anthony, N.L., last week.

Sheppard said he originally wanted to shoot an iceberg that was farther out in the water near the Fox Point Light Station, but decided it was too far for his drone.

“I decided to fly to the one that was a little closer and when I got over the top of it, I realized it had a perfectly… heart-shaped pool in the middle of the iceberg,” he said in an interview with CBC News.

He said it took a measure of bravery to reach the iceberg, but the reveal was worth it as he couldn’t tell what the top looked like from the shore.

Icebergs are one of Sheppard’s favourite things to see from his drone’s vantage point, and he said it’s been a great year for the activity.

The photographer said there are bergs all over the Northern Peninsula, and he’s heard there are some in the Bonavista and Twillingate area as well.

“The horizon is littered with icebergs,” said Sheppard.
