Vitality Blast – Kent recruit wristspinner Jake Lintott on loan until end of Blast

Lintott is due to leave Warwickshire at the end of the season, having joined the club in 2020. He last made a first-team appearance for the Bears in their Blast quarter-final defeat to Somerset in September. The 33-year old boasts an overall Blast record of 90 dismissals at 22.77. He has just three first-class appearances to his name.

An accomplished bowler in the shorter formats, Lintott was a late arriver to the professional game, giving up a teaching job to trial with Warwickshire in 2020 before earning a full-time contract the following year. His 21 dismissals in the 2021 Blast earned him a wildcard spot in the Hundred, going on to win the inaugural competition with Southern Brave as their leading wicket-taker.

In 2022, he represented England Lions in a 50-over match against South Africa – which also happened to be his List A debut – and has gone on to feature in various overseas franchise competitions including the Caribbean Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League, and Abu Dhabi T10.

Kent begin their Blast campaign against Middlesex at Lord’s on May 22, with Lintott’s deal set to run until July 19. Though he was not picked up in this year’s Hundred auction, a good campaign – and his unique skillset – could put him in the frame for another wildcard selection. He is also be available for Kent’s Division Two County Championship fixtures against Durham (beginning May 15), Lancashire (June 12) and Middlesex (June 19).

“We’re delighted to welcome Jake into the group for the next block of first-team fixtures,” Simon Cook, Kent director of cricket, said. “He provides us with an extra dimension to our bowling attack in all formats, and will complement the spin options we have to give us more tactical flexibility.”
