- Matthew Lillard will appear in ‘Man of Tomorrow’.
- His role is a mystery for now.
- James Gunn is writing and directing the ‘Superman’ follow-up.
Everything’s coming up Lillard! Enjoying something of a career renaissance (and defence from cine-grump Quentin Tarantino’s criticism of him), Matthew Lillard has landed another plum role, according to Deadline.
He’s joining the cast of ‘Man of Tomorrow’, James Gunn’s follow-up to ‘Superman’, in a mystery role.

Release Date: Jul 9, 2027
Budget: $330,000,000
The move reunites Gunn with Lillard, following the pair both working on the ‘Scooby-Doo’ live-action/CGI movies years ago (Gunn as writer, Lillard playing Shaggy).

What’s the story for ‘Man of Tomorrow’?

Here’s what Gunn said about the new movie:
“It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. It’s more complicated than that but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I Just love the script so much.”
So, who could Matthew Lillard be playing in ‘Man of Tomorrow’?

The internet has lit up with speculation about the actor’s potential role in the movie, with guesses including everything from Plastic Man to Ted Kord/Blue Beetle. That said, the picture that Gunn posted of himself and Lillard makes it look like the actor could be Jim Gordon, teeing up a chance to introduce the Batman characters in a stealthy fashion.
