Battlefield 6 Season 3 kicks off next week, and its gameplay trailer bets big on Battlefield 4 nostalgia

Despite the usual friction with a demanding core player base and recent layoffs, Battlefield 6 is trucking along fine and in a much better spot than Battlefield 2042 was at the same time during its life cycle. Next week, it’s time for Season 3, and its gameplay trailer doubles down on BF4-era nostalgia.

If you haven’t been keeping track, BF6’s roadmap for the rest of 2026 is looking really good, and we’ve known for a while a return to BF4’s fan-favourite Golmud Railway (renamed to Railway to Golmud for this game) was on the cards. Now, the S3 trailer is finally showing it off alongside the also familiar Cairo Bazaar, “an updated take on Grand Bazaar”. Before we get into all the juicy details, watch the trailer right here:

The maps alone are a “call to arms” aimed directly at the BF3 and BF4 crowd, but even the weapon selection is a classic: the L115 sniper rifle and the M16A4 assault rifle – somehow absent from the game at launch – are leading the pack. Also familiar to “run-and-gun” players should be the RPK-74M LMG and PP-19 SMG, which can be put to good use in the new Obliteration game mode. We’re still waiting for the full details, but it looks like another twist on the attackers vs. defenders format with explosives and a larger player count. As usual, all the playable content comes at no cost.

Of course a new premium battle pass that hasn’t been unveiled yet will be coming along with the free rewards, and the publisher and developers are probably hoping more players will give BF6 REDSEC – the game’s free-to-play battle royale component – a go now that a Ranked queue is being added.

Though more all-new content has been teased for later seasons, Season 3 distinctly feels like an attempt to win back the trust of the most hardcore crowd following hit registration and gun balance struggles early on. Regardless, BF6 (alongside EA Sports FC) has made EA’s FY26 record-breaking, so by all accounts, it’s a game that’s performed remarkably well – even if you’d think otherwise looking at the cuts made to Battlefield Studios after its release.
