These days, homebuyers are looking for affordability, and finding it increasingly means heading to the Midwest.
The center of the country nabbed 6 of the 10 top spots on Redfin’s ranking of America’s hottest neighborhoods. The ranking encompasses growth in listing views over the past year and measures of competitiveness like average days on market, sales-to-list-price ratio, and competing offers.
Also on the list are a pair of Florida cities near Tampa and parts of the perennially hot New York City area.

Land O’ Lakes, Fla., ZIP code 34637
This suburb, about 20 miles north of Tampa, is quickly growing, and its home values are too. Home prices are up 7.6% year over year, while sales have spiked 36%. The median home in Land O’ Lakes is $425,000, right around the national average.
Plant City, Fla., ZIP code 33566
Buyers seeking to be a bit farther out but still within the Tampa metro have been flocking to Plant City, about 25 miles east. Here, the median home price is lower, at $320,000, and sales are up 6% year over year. While many assume Plant City gets its name from its many plant nurseries and robust winter strawberry business, it’s actually named after railroad scion Henry B. Plant.

Oak Creek, Wis., ZIP code 53154
Just south of Milwaukee, Oak Creek sits on the shores of Lake Michigan. The median home price in the city is $381,200, though that’s rising fast: Prices are up 12.8% year over year. And 38% of homes ultimately end up selling above list price.
Oceanside, N.Y., ZIP code 11572
The median home in Oceanside, on Long Island, is a pricey $725,000, but that’s something of a bargain in Nassau County, which is sought after among New York area buyers for its location immediately east of the city. Multiple-offer situations are common, and half of homes end up selling for over list price. Maybe the competition is worth it for real estate 10 minutes from the beach.

West Bend, Wis., ZIP code 53090
Another Milwaukee suburb, West Bend is roughly 30 minutes to the northwest and situated along the Milwaukee River. The median home costs $350,000, up 16.7% year over year. Around 45% of homes ultimately sell for over asking price.
Lincoln Park, Mich., ZIP code 48146
The Detroit suburb of Lincoln Park boasts the lowest home prices on the list. The city’s median home is priced at just $158,000, up just 1.9% in the past year. Homes sell quickly though, averaging just 30 days on market. And sales are up 14% year over year.
