Former Vol retires from coaching basketball


Former Tennessee basketball player Aaron Green announced his retirement from coaching on Monday.

He served as head coach at Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee for 16 seasons.

During his tenure, he guided the Wildcats to the TSSAA Class AAA state championship game in 2014 and the 2025 TSSAA Class 4A state championship game.

Oak Ridge did not advance to a state championship game since 1963 before Green led the Wildcats to two runner-up finishes. He won 456 games as head coach for Oak Ridge and did not have a losing record.

Green was also head coach at Cleveland High School (Cleveland, Tennessee), winning 166 games with the Blue Raiders.

He also served as assistant coach at Tennessee under head coach Bruce Pearl from 2007-10.

Green played for the Vols from 1995-99 under head coaches Kevin O’Neill and Jerry Green.

He appeared in 100 games, including 11 starts, during his career with the Vols. Green averaged 5.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
