S&P/TSX composite down more than 100 points, U.S. stock markets also lower



TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index fell more than 100 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the base metal, financial and industrial sectors, while U.S. stock markets also moved lower.

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index fell more than 100 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the base metal, financial and industrial sectors, while U.S. stock markets also moved lower.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 118.53 points at 33,772.65.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 380.05 points at 49,119.22. The S&P 500 index was down 30.38 points at 7,199.74, while the Nasdaq composite was down 89.86 points at 25,024.58.

The Canadian dollar traded for 73.48 cents US compared with 73.66 cents US on Friday.

The June crude oil contract was up US$1.90 at US$103.84 per barrel.

The June gold contract was down US$76.70 at US$4,567.80 an ounce.
