Like a last-minute reservation swap at a fancy hotel, things are changing at ‘The White Lotus’. While Helena Bonham Carter had been among the higher-profile hires for the fourth season of Mike White’s successful HBO satirical series, she has now departed the show after her character reportedly “didn’t align” with the story once filming got underway.
To replace her –– and to play a new character the showrunner is quickly writing in –– Deadline brings word that White has turned to an old friend and regular collaborator, Laura Dern, who has joined the season.
“Same luxury. New reservations.”
Air Date: July 11th, 2021
Dern and White’s creative partnership stretches back to ‘Year of the Dog’ and also his previous HBO series ‘Enlightened’, which they co-created and Dern starred in.

The latest season follows a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over a week during the Cannes Film Festival.
Expect White to turn his eye once more on privilege, art and, if previous seasons are anything to go by, death.
