S&P/TSX composite down in late-morning trading as oil moves lower



TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was in the red in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the energy sector as the price of oil moved lower.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 37.12 points at 33,927.21.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 37.12 points at 33,927.21.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 65.41 points at 49,717.55. The S&P 500 index was up 46.83 points at 7,255.84, while the Nasdaq composite was up 265.34 points at 25,157.65.

The Canadian dollar traded for 73.70 cents US compared with 73.40 cents US on Thursday.

The June crude oil contract was down US$2.98 at US$102.09 per barrel.

The June gold contract was up US$3.50 at US$4,633.10 an ounce.
