Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 developer won’t confirm whether it’s working on a Lord of the Rings game, but has said whatever comes next, it will be “an RPG true to our colours”

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 studio Warhorse is keeping quiet about whether or not it’s working on a Lord of the Rings game, but has assured whatever comes next, it will be “an RPG true to our colours”.

Back in March, rumours started circulating that Warhorse was working on a game set in Tolkien’s Middle-earth, and during a recent Q&A hosted by the developer on reddit, one fan took the opportunity to find out if this was indeed true. Unsurprisingly, the team didn’t reveal a huge amount, but it also didn’t deny the Lord of the Rings rumour.

When asked by reddit user Alone_Violinist2137 “is there really going to be a Lord of the Rings game?”, content director Ondřej Bittner replied that the Warhorse team was “hard at work on … something”, adding “obviously we cannot disclose any details but I can share that it is a huge immersive RPG”.

Then, when Prestigious_Salt6498 asked if the studio’s next project will be “a historical RPG”, Bittner said whatever it is, it “will definitely be an RPG true to our colours – huge, story-driven and immersive”. Katastrophchen asked if Warhorse had a timeframe for when it may reveal its next game, and the good news is that whatever it is, be it Lord of the Rings or something totally different, it will be “near future”, according to Bittner.

So, yes, the studio is working on something, even if we don’t know exactly what that something is beyond an RPG. As for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, meanwhile, it garnered a lot of love for its dedication to toil and turmoil in Bohemia, told through the eyes of Henry of Skalitz. A hardy combat system and eager embrace of vulgarity come together in a compelling RPG well worth playing.

Despite the game’s success, though, developer Warhorse has been hit with a number of controversies over the years, with the most recent one being the reported firing of a translator to be replaced by AI.
