Minister Joly and Minister Rodriguez to welcome International Civil Aviation Organization leadership and Council to Ottawa

As a founding member and leading contributor and host country to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Canada is proud to support the crucial role the organization plays to ensure people around the world can enjoy safe, secure, sustainable, inclusive, accessible and reliable air transport.

Today, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport and Quebec Lieutenant, announced that they will welcome Salvatore Sciacchitano, President of the ICAO Council, and Juan Carlos Salazar, ICAO Secretary General, to Ottawa for an official visit on the margins of the ICAO Council Off-site Strategy meeting from June 3 to June 5, 2024.

Minister Joly and Minister Rodriguez will meet with ICAO Council President Sciacchitano and ICAO Secretary General Salazar to discuss several global aviation priorities. This will include upholding a rules-based international air transport system, advancing accessibility and sustainability while continuing to ensure the safety of passengers, crews and the aviation sector across the world.

During their visit, ICAO Council President Sciacchitano and ICAO Secretary General Salazar will also meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

As this year marks the 80th anniversary of ICAO, Canada is honoured to welcome ICAO leadership and the council to our capital, Ottawa. Canada is proud to be host state to ICAO and our commitment to the organization has never been stronger as we reaffirm our dedication to supporting its mandate and work now and into the future.
