New Xbox boss Asha Sharma teases a Discord partnership as part of a renewed Game Pass push, days after significant price cut announced

New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has announced the collaboration between Discord and Xbox will continue, as the renewed Game Pass push continues.

Announced via a X post,Sharma wrote: “For years, Xbox and Discord have worked together to make it easier for players to connect, chat, and play across devices. We’re teaming up again as we continue to make Game Pass more flexible for our players. Some of you might start to see some code in the wild, and we will share more details with you all soon!”

Discord’s own social media accounts would go on to share this post by Sharma, adding a fresh graphic featuring both Xbox and Discord logos, alongside the word “soon”.

How exactly this partnership will manifest remains a mystery, though some level of Discord integration with Xbox consoles is present already. But with Sharma currently making big changes to Xbox, anything could change.

Already, a price decrease for Game Pass has been announced, with a coinciding post on Xbox Wire stating: “Our players cover a wide breadth of geographies, preferences, and tastes, so while there isn’t a single model that’s best for everyone, this change responds to a lot of feedback we’ve gotten so far. We’ll continue to listen and learn.” As part of this price reduction, Call of Duty games will no longer launch on the service, instead planned as additions in the holiday season following launch.

Sharma, having taken the CEO role relatively recently, also ended the “this is an Xbox” marketing campaign, saying “it didn’t feel like Xbox”. Sharma also said she has “no tolerance for bad AI”, among fears of the technology’s spread to the Xbox console space. In a leaked internal memo, Sharma also shared that she felt Game Pass had become “too expensive for players”, which helps explain the recent price cuts.
