Spider-Noir is starting to feel a lot more like Spider-Man

Watch Nicolas Cage fight some iconic Spider-Man villains (and Megawatt)

Two versions of a new Spider-Noir trailer were revealed at CCXPMX26. They offer a look at the more comic book-like side of the upcoming superhero drama starring Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly (aka The Spider), including its interpretation of some iconic Spider-Man villains.

The trailer spends a lot of time setting up the connection between the show’s take on The Spider and Black Cat. It has its fair share of action, too, as we see fights with versions of Sandman and Megawatt. Mob boss and Spider-Man villain Silvermane, portrayed here by Brendan Gleeson, also has a substantial role in the trailer. Check out the black-and-white and “True-Hue” color versions of the trailer below.

Inspired by Cage’s performance as Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Noir is an adaptation of an alternate universe series of Spider-Man comics. It’s set in the 1930s and follows Ben Reilly, a private investigator with powers similar to Spider-Man’s. While Reilly had retired, the events of the show cause him to become The Spider again and take on villains like Sandman and Tombstone.

Although one of the villains in the trailer has electricity-based powers like Electro, that’s actually a deep-cut Spider-Man foe called Megawatt. After watching the first trailer, I worried that Spider-Noir would keep things too grounded and refuse to embrace the more fantastical side of the comics it’s based on. From featuring obscure villains to showing more superpowers in action, this new trailer indicates that Spider-Noir won’t forget to include some of the more entertaining elements from the comic books.

Spider-Noir’s first episode will air on MGM Plus on May 25, while the entire season will be released on Prime Video at once on May 27. The show will be released in both color and black-and-white, like its trailers, so you’ll have a reason to watch it twice if it’s good.
