S&P/TSX composite down in late-morning trading amid losses in energy and telecom



TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down in late-morning trading amid losses in the energy and telecommunication sectors, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 78.69 points at 33,834.24.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 78.69 points at 33,834.24.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 149.41 points at 49,160.91. The S&P 500 index was up 35.41 points at 7,143.81, while the Nasdaq composite was up 278.69 points at 24,717.19.

The Canadian dollar traded for 73.07 cents US compared with 73.06 cents US on Thursday.

The June crude oil contract was down 58 cents US at US$95.27 per barrel.

The June gold contract was up US$15.90 at US$4,739.90 an ounce.
