Timothée Chalamet Takes Minority Stake In Watchmaker Urban Jürgensen

CALL TIME: Timothée Chalamet has a new role – and it’s not on the silver screen.

The Marty Supreme” and “Dune” star has taken a minority stake in revived historic watchmaker Urban Jürgensen, which relaunched last year.

In a statement, the watchmaker announced Wednesday the actor was alongside a small number of strategic external investors and would also work as a creative advisor on projects and initiatives. The move marked the first time he has taken a partnership role in a company.

“A couple of years ago, a film director I admire deeply piqued my interest in artisanal watchmaking – not the flashy kind, but the kind that demands years of discipline, patience, and ultimately, mastery,” Chalamet said. “I started to see it as a sibling to filmmaking – a precise expression, just on a different scale. One lives on an IMAX screen, the other within 48 by 40 by 10 millimeters, but both have the ability to hold entire worlds within them.”

Calling their relationship as “more of a creative collaboration than a traditional endorsment,” Chalamet added that he was drawn to Urban Jürgensen by “how clearly the focus was on the watches themselves – on craft, on process, on getting it right” after being introduced to the brand by Andrew and Alex Rosenfield, the father-and-son who are respectively its executive chairman and chief executive officer.

“When we first met, we were struck by Timothée’s curiosity and interest in independent watchmaking,” said the younger Rosenfield. “He is a deeply passionate creative person who cares about craft and excellence. That’s the reason people respond to him and it aligns closely with how we approach what we do.”

Chalamet, who was an ambassador for Cartier until last year, has shown his interest in watchmaking, particularly in independent names, in recent months. For premieres of “Marty Supreme” in locales such as Shanghai and Paris, he was spotted wearing pieces from Simon Brette, Petermann Bedat and Akrivia, which is the brand of watchmaker Rexhep Rexepi.

At this year’s Academy Awards, the Oscar nominee wore Urban Jürgensen’s UJ-2, one of the first three watches released since the brand’s revival.

The watchmaker, which traces its roots back to 1773 and a family of royal watchmakers in Copenhagen, was officially relaunched in March 2025 with Alex Rosenfield and multiaward-winning master watchmaker Kari Voutilainen as co-CEOs.

They were among a tight cadre of private investors that banded together to buy the brand in 2021. Voutilainen stepped down as co-CEO in December, taking a new role as board member and senior strategic advisor, while the younger Rosenfield stepped up as CEO.

The watchmaker’s daughter Venla Voutilainen, who was the company’s director of after sales service and chief operating officer, also left the company to work more closely with her father.
