What’s on the agenda for the House and Senate committees today.
Senior executives from Bell Media, Cogeco Media, Gonez Media, Groupe Radio Simard and Tri Cities Community TV are set to appear at CANADIAN HERITAGE to offer their respective and shared perspectives as MPs continue their self-initiated investigation into the state of Canada’s “journalism and media sectors.” (11 a.m.)
Meanwhile, the “current state of civil resilience in Canada” will once again up for discussion — and, most likely, debate — at PROCEDURE AND HOUSE AFFAIRS as MPs host back-to-back discussions with representatives of the Canadian Constitutional Foundation, Institute for Strategic Dialogue, Digital Public Square and Vote16 Canada. (11 a.m.)
Also this morning:
- AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD members examine the “business risk management programs” within Canada’s agricultural sector with the Canadian Canola Growers Association, Canadian Seed Growers’ Association, Western Grain Elevator Association, Conseil québécois des plantes fourragères, Canadian Forage and Grassland Association and Grain Growers of Canada. (11 a.m.)
- NATURAL RESOURCES members get an update on Canada’s energy exports from Export Development Canada CEO Alison Nankivell, as well as representatives from LNG Canada, Advanced Biofuels Canada, Canadian Renewable Energy Association and FPInnovations. (11 a.m.)
- INTERNATIONAL TRADE members examine Canada’s trade with North and West Africa. (11 a.m.)
Later this afternoon, HEALTH members will get a briefing on the decision by the Canada Health Infoway to the plug on PrescribeIIT, an electronic prescription management platform that, as CBC News notes, “allows doctors to instantly send drug prescriptions to pharmacies and approve prescription renewal requests with a click of a mouse,” but is on track to be wound down due to the lack of a sustainable funding model. On the witness list today; Infoway CEO Michael Green, TELUS Health vice-president Ratcho Batchvarov and senior Health Canada officials. (3:30 p.m.)
Elsewhere on the afternoon circuit, Canada’s chief librarian and archivist Leslie Weir will share her perspective on the ongoing government-wide expenditure review process with GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS AND ESTIMATES members. (3:30 p.m.)
PUBLIC SAFETY AND NATIONAL SECURITY members circle back to the role of the Canada Border Services Agency in patrolling the H2O Trade Corridor, as well as “port clearance practices.” (3:30 p.m.)
Rounding out the committee rotation, the SPECIAL JOINT COMMITTEE ON MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IN DYING will hear more testimony on extending eligibility to individuals whose sole underlying condition is a mental illness. (6:30 p.m.)
