There aren’t many athletes whose sneaker legacies extend beyond their own signature models, but there also aren’t many athletes that can compare to the late Kobe Bryant. After a brief period of footwear free agency following his initial line with Adidas, Bryant signed with Nike in 2003, kickstarting what would become one of the most influential basketball sneaker lines of all time. But before a proper Kobe-branded model was introduced to the market, Nike outfitted Bryant in what’s considered his unofficial first signature sneaker, the Zoom Huarache 2K4. Now, after a 22-year hiatus, one of the model’s original colorways is coming back.

The Nike Zoom Huarache 2K4 OT is set to be released this month in its triple-black colorway. The pair features a black leather upper accented with ribbed lines which extend to the shoe’s Zoom Air-cushioned midsole. Panels of suede appear on the toe and heel for added texture, while the shoe’s TPU heel cup keeps things in place. 

While lacking color, the Eric Avar-designed Zoom Huarache 2K4’s biggest selling points are internal, under-the-hood performance features such as its aforementioned Zoom cushioning and an inner bootie, the latter of which provided a snug fit. The sneaker’s on-court prowess has long been favored by players, and some elements of the sneaker would later be seen in Bryant’s own line, which was also designed by Avar.

Throughout 2004, Bryant would wear various colors of the Zoom Huarache 2K4 including Lakers-themed looks and a red, white and blue makeup for NBA All-Star Weekend. As for the Triple Black pair, it was seen less frequently but was laced up by Bryant during a particularly memorable dunk on former NBA great Dwight Howard. 

For the first time ever, the triple-black Nike Zoom Huarache 2K4 will be rereleased on April 30 for a retail price of $200 with availability from Nike’s Snkrs app and select Nike Sportswear retailers. The full colorway is Black/Black and the style code for the pair is IV0329-001.
