The jet will feature 53 Delta One suites and 48 Premium Select recliners, totaling 101 premium seats before even reaching the main cabin. Dedicating so much square footage to the Delta One cabin, the airline is betting on the continued 14% year-over-year growth in premium ticket sales reported in early 2026. This density is a technical necessity for the A350-1000’s standard mission, which involves carrying high-yield passengers on routes exceeding 15 hours. The result is an aircraft that is noticeably more luxurious inside, matching the likes of Singapore Airlines on its A350-900ULR fleet.

The sheer volume of these suites also ensures that Delta can offer more saver-level award availability, though still rare, while maintaining enough inventory for last-minute corporate bookings. Unlike the smaller A350-900, the -1000 variant provides the extra length needed to accommodate this massive premium section without sacrificing the necessary fuel reserves for long-range efficiency.

When the new Delta One suite debuts in early 2027, its most significant technical advantage will be its length. The lie-flat bed has been extended to 83 inches (210.8 cm), which is three inches (7.6 cm) longer than the current A350-900 suites. This stretch is specifically designed to accommodate taller passengers who have historically felt cramped in the footwells of older reverse-herringbone designs.

Delta’s decision to maintain a uniform suite across all 53 seats stands in stark contrast to the business-plus strategies of United Airlines and American Airlines. According to Mauricio Parise, VP of Brand Experience, 97% say Delta’s flat-bed is the reason they choose the cabin, and this new iteration is designed to address the common complaint of seat-joint discomfort. Optimizing the side console and removing the central overhead bins to increase headroom, the cabin feels significantly more spacious than its predecessors.

For the first time, Delta is also introducing a walk-up refreshment and snack station specifically for Delta One passengers, allowing travelers to stretch their legs and grab a drink without needing to ring the flight attendant call button, a feature long requested by regular long-haul flyers.

Historically, these planes have lacked the privacy doors of the newer fleet, leading to a disjointed brand experience. Starting in September 2026, Delta will launch a $1 billion-plus retrofit program to install suites with doors on 42 of these legacy aircraft. This nose-to-tail refresh will bring the older widebodies in line with the high-tech standards set by the A350 and A330neo.

The retrofit involves stripping the cabins to their shells to install the Thompson Aero Vantage XL platform. This move is designed to ensure that by 2030, 90% of Delta’s long-haul business class fleet will feature sliding privacy doors.
