Dolphins hosted 24-sack DE for free agent visit on Thursday

The Miami Dolphins have spent put some effort into finding replacements for Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb this offseason, as they’ve brought in Joshua Uche, David Ojabo and Robert Beal Jr. to compete for reps opposite Chop Robinson.

While Miami could add a real game-changer in the 2026 NFL draft, they’re still sniffing around the free agent market, and on Thursday, they hosted A.J. Epenesa for a visit.

Epenesa, 27, played collegiately at Iowa from 2017-19, where he earned All-Big Ten honors twice and All-American honors once. The Buffalo Bills took him in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, but he played just a third of their defensive snaps as a rookie.

In 91 games over six seasons, Epenesa has recorded 135 tackles, 53 quarterback hits, 24 sacks, 21 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries while playing over 50% of the snaps just once (2024).

Epenesa may immediately be the favorite to win the starting job in South Florida if they were to sign him in the coming days. However, considering the team’s cap situation, another team could beat their offer.
