A futile peace in Lebanon


Hezbollah, however, outright rejected the peace talks. Its leader, Naim Qassem, called for the meeting to be cancelled, saying that negotiations were “futile” and claiming that by speaking with Jerusalem, Beirut had become “a tool for Israel.” Qassem vowed that Hezbollah “will not surrender” and will “remain in the field until our last breath.”
