A new report has shared more alleged details about the next God of War game, including which mythologies it could explore.

Please be aware of (potential) upcoming God of War spoilers below.

According to Mp1st, the yet-to-be-announced God of War prequel game will feature several different mythologies, with suggestions that Mayan will feature. However, the publication seems most certain that East-Asian mythologies will be making a showing in the game, and “elements from Chinese and Japanese mythologies” will play a “part of a new entry in the series”.

The publication noted that “game development is a fickle thing” (ain’t that the truth), and so “things are always subject to change”. That being said, it remained confident that these mythologies will be “present in the final version of the title”.

The report also suggests this God of War game will feature Kratos’ wife Faye as the main playable character. This corroborates a previous claim by respected industry leaker NateTheHate2, who said the next God of War game will have more of a focus on action than the Norse saga. Allegedy, Tyr will also feature in the upcoming release, though in what capacity remains unclear.

There was also some chat that the player will have a companion described as a “gelatinous cube”, and Merlin is in the game as a talking sword, which all sounds rather wild to me, but we shall see.

As for when we may hear official word on the next God of War entry, the current suggestion is later this month. We will of course update you when we know more, so stay tuned. In the meantime, though, how do you feel about these potential story and gameplay beats?

Elsewhere in God of War news, Amazon has been steadily rounding out the cast for its upcoming live-action adaptation. The most recent new member is Lost and For All Mankind alum Sonya Walger, who will play Queen of the Valkyries, Freya. Behind the camera, meanwhile, Amazon’s God of War adaptation includes former Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore, who will serve as showrunner on the upcoming series, and Emmy winning Shōgun director Frederick E.O. Toye.

We recently got our first look at Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus in Amazon’s live-action TV series, with an image reminiscent of the opening to 2018’s God of War video game.
