Ludwig reveals surprising reason he’s facing Tyler1 in Street Fighter 6 Evo exhibition

Ludwig is set to face off against fellow streamer Tyler1 in a special Street Fighter 6 exhibition at Evo Las Vegas 2026.

This announcement was a controversial one within the fighting game community. Some members argued that neither streamer is endemic enough to the FGC to warrant such an honor, given that Evo is the largest fighting game tournament in the world.

Ludwig addressed the situation in an April live stream, where he remarked that he’d been paid “$500,000” to compete in the exhibition before diving into his reasons for participating.

“I agreed to this because in general, I like doing content with Tyler,” he said. “I think it’d be fun.”

“There were actually a lot of people online who were a bit upset about this. I think some of the FGC members thought there was a lot of budget and opportunity costs that went into this that could have gone into something else, which I think is just a misunderstanding of the case here.”

Ludwig wants Rivals of Aether II to be Evo’s “biggest” tournament

Ludwig went on to explain that he’d planned to go to Evo regardless of the exhibition to help promote Rivals of Aether II, a platform fighter that was published by his company, Offbrand Games.

In fact, he says the game has a major shot at getting a slot in Evo’s Sunday Finals, and even wants to help pay for players’ registration so they can compete.

“I was always planning to go to Evo, regardless,” he said. “I’m not going to Evo just for a paid opportunity just to do Street Fighter. …I want Rivals of Aether II to have the biggest tournament at Evo. I’m making a play to cover registration for basically hundreds of people to go to Evo and play the game.”

He went on to share screenshots of his Discord DMs with Tyler1, who Ludwig says has reached Master rank in Street Fighter 6. Ludwig himself claims he is currently at Platinum.

(Topic begins at 1:20)

Both Tyler1 and Ludwig have participated in Street Fighter 6 tournaments before this. Tyler1 famously held a Modern controls-only tournament with a $10,000 grand prize last year, while Ludwig competed in the 2025 AT&T Annihilator Cup, where he placed 5th.
