When does Project Hail Mary come to streaming, Blu-ray and DVD?

Project Hail Mary is a box office and critical hit, impressing fans of Andy Weir’s 2021 novel and proving a worthy successor to Ridley Scott’s adaptation of Weir’s The Martian. The film has already brought in $510 million worldwide, making it even more likely that directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will make the adaptation of Weir’s second book, Artemis, which they’ve been attached to since 2017.

It’s worth seeing Project Hail Mary on the biggest screen possible to enjoy the spectacular visuals, which are reminiscent of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. (The movie’s even coming back for an encore IMAX run, starting April 17.) But the feel-good sci-fi movie about astronaut Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) befriending a rock-like alien is sure to become a staple for comfort viewing at home.

Amazon MGM Studios, which produced Project Hail Mary, hasn’t announced a home video release yet. This is by far the biggest film the company has released since Amazon Studios completed its merger with MGM in 2023. That makes it a bit hard to predict what the rollout to home video on demand and streaming will look like, but we’ll take our best guess based on previous schedules and update this article as we learn more.

Here’s the latest on when Project Hail Mary will be released for home viewing.

When will Project Hail Mary be available to rent or purchase digitally?

Amazon MGM’s biggest box office success before Project Hail Mary was Michael B. Jordan’s Creed 3, which was released in theaters on March 3, 2023, and was made available for purchase digitally at home on April 1, 2023. That’s a 29-day window from its theatrical debut to its digital release. Other studio releases have had similarly short windows, with just 18 days for The Beekeeper and 25 days for Mercy.

Given Project Hail Mary released on March 20 and is still number two at the box office three weeks later, Amazon MGM is giving it more time on the big screen. Online retailers don’t even have pre-order pages up yet. Big sci-fi blockbusters from other studios can have wildly different schedules based on how long they can sustain theatrical interest, with Dune: Part 2 having a 46-day window while Avatar: Fire and Ash took 102 days. That means it could be a while before you can hang out with Rocky and Grace at home.

Online retailers haven’t put up pre-order pages for Project Hail Mary on Blu-ray or DVD yet, so it will be months before the film gets a physical release. Amazon MGM is releasing Mercy on DVD and Blu-ray on April 7, 48 days after its digital release, and waited two months between the digital and physical releases of Creed 3. We’ll have a better idea of the timing when the digital release is announced.

When will Project Hail Mary be available to stream on Prime Video?

Project Hail Mary will almost certainly stream first on Amazon’s Prime Video service. Mercy came to Prime Video about five weeks after its digital release while it took a full two months for Creed 3 to make it to streaming. That means Project Hail Mary will probably hit streaming in fall, just in time for you to get cozy like Ryan Gosling wearing a cardigan.

Will Project Hail Mary be available to stream on Netflix?

Netflix and Amazon signed a deal in 2025 that brought the James Bond and Creed series and Prime Video originals like The Man in the High Castle to Netflix starting in January. That means Project Hail Mary is likely to eventually find its way to the streamer as well. Because the deal is so new, we don’t have a timeline for how long the film will remain a Prime Video exclusive.

‘It wasn’t like the studio did it. I was the one that was like, I think we got to cut it, guys. But I’m still sad about it.’
