Adventure puzzle games inevitably always come back to Myst, and 2020’s Call of the Sea was no different. But the genre’s siren song is being sung once again with a follow-up to the pretty mysterious island game in the form of Call of the Elder Gods. Which, as it just so happens, now has a release date that is fast approaching.

As shared in a snazzy new trailer, Call of the Elder Gods is planned for release in a little over a month on May 12th. Those that played the original will find themselves embodying a familiar face, Harry Everheart, the very husband the first game’s protagonist Norah was searching for. He’s troubled by strange visions with this one, alongside the game’s other playable character Evangeline Drayton, so the two head off across the world to try and figure out just what’s up with them.

The puzzles appear to be pretty ranged in their variety, though ultimately still quite Mystian. Shifting things into just the right position, matching appropriate symbols, the usual kind of thing! Not a knock on it by any means, though this will definitely be catered more towards a certain kind of puzzle enjoyer I reckon. Swapping between Harry and Evangeline sounds like it’ll be something of a key component as the two strive to solve “complex, multi-part problems across time and space.”

Worth noting is that the sequel is quite directly inspired, as the title may suggest, inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, specifically A Shadow Out of Time. Never an ideal author to be inspired by, though it at least doesn’t look like Call of the Elder Gods will be following in his beliefs.
