PSL 2026, MS vs RWP 14th Match Match Report, April 06, 2026

Multan Sultans 186 for 3 (Farhan 68, Philippe 56, Amir 2-32) beat Rawalpindiz 182 for 8 (Billings 56*, Ghulam 35, Faisal Akram 4-31) by seven wickets

Multan Sultans comprehensively established their credentials as the early tournament favourites, bulldozing past a lacklustre Rawalpindiz by seven wickets. Sahibzada Farhan’s purple patch shows no signs of abating, with the opener smashing his way to another match-winning knock, blasting 68 off 38 as his side coasted to the 182 Rawalpindiz had set with nearly four overs to spare. He had with him Josh Philippe for capable company with the Australian scoring his second half-century in PSL 2026, the pair’s 110-run partnership coming off just 58 balls.

This tournament has been kind to chasing teams, so Rawalpindiz knew they were up against it. With Naseem Shah ruled out, they needed a big effort from Mohammad Amir, one they looked like getting when he snared Steve Smith in his first over. However, the regular breakthroughs Rawalpindiz sniffed never materialized as Farhan and Philippe began to take control.

That dominance was rubber-stamped when Farhan decided to take the attack to Amir himself, smashing two sixes off the first two balls of his next over. It helped Sultans sign off the Powerplay by scoring 58, an advantage they pressed home against Rawalpindiz’s thin bowling attack. Philippe walloped Mohammad Amir Khan around for 16 in the eighth over before the pair plundered four sixes off Rishad Hossain in an over that just about made the game safe at the halfway mark.

From thereon, it was a Rawalpindiz procession. A decent yorker from Amir Khan removed Farhan while Mohammad Amir sent Philippe back, but both had scored whirlwind half-centuries, and by now the asking rate was barely over a run a ball. Shan Masood and Ashton Turner made light work of it.

Sultans were initially put in this position of relative comfort by a superb bowling display, spearheaded by left arm wristspinner Faisal Akram. His four wickets during a spell where his variations bamboozled Rawalpindiz ripped the heart out of the batting innings, with Sultans striking whenever Rawalpindiz threatened to put together a partnership. Cameos from Kamran Ghulam and Abdullah Fazal helped the batters start off respectably, but they were waylaid by Akram’s introduction as the innings ground to a halt.

In 27 balls between the eighth and 12th over, Rawalpindiz mustered just 28, losing three big wickets in the process, including a wickedly clever topspinner that accounted for Daryl Mitchell. Dian Forrester smashed Mohammad Nawaz for three successive sixes to inject a bit of impetus into the innings, but there weren’t enough men to give him company.

By the end Sam Billings, who had started sluggishly, began to catch up and ensure his side would have something to bowl at. He began to farm the strike expertly, taking down Mohammad Wasim and Peter Siddle, scoring an unbeaten 56 off 34 as his side hit 43 off the last four. However, it was a pitch that had few demons in it, and any total below 200 was always going to be a struggle. Against a team in Multan Sultans’ form, that was especially true, with a clinic from Farhan and Philippe emphasising the point.
