Artemis II’s Jeremy Hansen calls Project Hail Mary ‘a real treat’ before his space mission | Artemis II

The new space movie Project Hail Mary starring Ryan Gosling has gotten a rave review from more than halfway to the moon.

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen said on Saturday that he and his Artemis II crewmates got to watch the film with their families before launching on the lunar fly-around. He said it was “a real treat” to view the movie while getting ready for his own space adventure.

Gosling, Hansen’s fellow Canadian, sent best wishes to the four astronauts in advance of Wednesday’s liftoff. The actor and astronaut are both from the south-western Ontario city of London.

“Art imitates science and vice versa,” Hansen said during a live televised event arranged by the Canadian Space Agency. “I thought it was just such an inspirational example – somebody who goes out there and just gets what was done to save humanity. It’s a pretty extraordinary example that we can all follow.”

Hansen is the first non-US citizen to fly to the moon.

If all goes as planned, Hansen and his crewmates will set a record by venturing further from Earth than any human before – more than 250,000 miles. The current record is held by the crew of Apollo 13, a mission which received the Hollywood treatment with a critically acclaimed film in 1995.
