It said the potential move, first reported by Bloomberg, could mean the automaker brings in an operation that relies on much of the manufacturing happening in China, leaving only minor assembly for plants abroad.
“Unifor has very grave concerns about this proposal because it is not manufacturing,” national president Lana Payne said.“It doesn’t use the Canadian supply chain. There are no jobs in auto parts and very few jobs assembling these knock-down kits.”

Now, some exciting space news.
Canadian Jeremy Hansen is now circling Earth in the first stage of a historic lunar mission after Artemis II successfully launched from the Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday.
On board with Hansen are veteran NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch.
“We are going for all humanity,” Hansen said just before the final countdown.
The mission is expected initially to stay close to Earth in order to test its systems before the astronauts fire the main engine to propel the spacecraft on humanity’s first voyage to the moon in more than 50 years.
They are set to bust out of orbit Thursday night, making Hansen the first non-American to travel beyond low Earth orbit.
Lt.-Gen. Jamie Speiser-Blanchet, commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force, watched Wednesday’s launch from the Florida-based space centre. She said the experience was emotional and inspiring.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has fired Pam Bondi as attorney general.
She will be replaced for now by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who will serve as acting attorney general, Trump said.
The president wrote on Truth Social that Bondi would be “transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector,” praising her for her work in his administration and offering no specific reason for why she would be leaving.
“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900,” he wrote.
Trump had been frustrated with Bondi on multiple fronts, sources said, including her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and that she had not investigated or prosecuted enough of his political opponents. She is the second Cabinet secretary to be ousted in recent weeks; last month, Trump removed Kristi Noem as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. One source said Trump felt that firing went smoothly, making him less wary of removing others.

Elsewhere, Emmanuel Macron has sharply criticised Donald Trump’s inconsistent and often contradictory pronouncements on the Iran war and Nato, saying if “you want to be serious” it was better not to come out with a something different every day.
“There is too much talk … and it’s all over the place,” the French president said on Thursday during a state visit to South Korea. “We all need stability, calm, a return to peace – this isn’t a show!”
Macron added: “You have to be serious. When you want to be serious, you don’t go around saying the opposite every day of what you just said the day before. And perhaps you shouldn’t talk every day.”
Macron also mounted a strong defence of Nato, accusing Trump of undermining the transatlantic defence alliance through repeated remarks questioning the United States’s commitment to its continued membership.
