Ben Charlesworth: Gloucestershire all-rounder to leave club at end of 2026

All-rounder Ben Charlesworth is to leave Gloucestershire at the end of the 2026 season after almost a decade with the county.

The 25-year-old made his debut in 2018, aged 17, having come through the club’s age groups and has gone on to score more than 3,400 runs across all formats.

Charlesworth, who signed a two-year contract extension in 2024, had been in discussions regarding a new contract, a club statement said.

“We’ve been in discussions with Ben for four or five months now and made a very strong offer to keep him beyond 2026, but he’s decided the time is right to move on and pursue an opportunity elsewhere,” director of cricket Jon Lewis said.

“Having that clarity now is important. It means we can attack the first game with real focus, and everyone is clear on where things stand. It also allows us to plan properly for 2027 and beyond.

“Ben will be difficult to replace, but we’ll be active in the market and will look to strengthen the squad as best we can.”
