Cyberpunk TCG breaks Kickstarter record for biggest game campaign ever

The writing was on the wall when the official Cyberpunk trading card game raised more than $8 million on Kickstarter in just 24 hours after a March 17 launch. On March 31, Cyberpunk TCG officially became the most-funded game in the history of Kickstarter. As of this writing, the campaign has raised $15.4 million with 16 days left to go, already a solid margin above the previous record-holder: Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere RPG raised just over $15 million in August 2024.

Kickstarter made it official in a blog post published Wednesday, also confirming that this milestone also makes Cyberpunk TCG the most funded game across all crowdfunding platforms ever, not just on Kickstarter. Cyberpunk TCG was created by WeirdCo, a company co-founded by Elliot Cook and Luohan Wei. It launched with an initial goal of $100,000 and was fully funded in just seven minutes — and the website may have crashed for a few of those minutes.

To celebrate, WeirdCo is giving every pledge tier a foil nova rare V: Street Kid card.

“While we celebrate becoming the largest tabletop game in crowdfunding history, our game is a celebration of everywhere Cyberpunk has been, and everywhere it’s going,” Elliot Cook wrote in a press release. “At WeirdCo, we prioritize nurturing the human connection and community building. We truly couldn’t have done this without our community, CDPR, and Kickstarter.”

During a conversation with Polygon at PAX East 2026 — while the campaign was still a couple million dollars short of the milestone — Wei and Cook talked about their surprise at the outswell of support. “We’re honored,” they agreed. While they never expected the game to take off in the way that it did, they did recognize a really strong showing of early support after an initial hype trailer was released in December. That trailer has more than 66,000 views.

Wei also noted that the Cyberpunk TCG campaign has among the highest number of individual backers. 21,484 backers have helped fund the project so far. And, predominantly, average spend per backer remains quite high. 4,264 backers spend $499 each on the Street Cred Back which comes with two decks, 108 booster packs, and more goodies. Another 8,965 spent $349 on the Netrunner Starter Kit with the same two decks and 72 booster packs. 700 backers each paid $7,999 for Night City Legend bundles that include serialized metal cards featuring iconic characters like Adam Smasher and David Martinez, along with a large number of decks and booster packs.

“There’s something really special about seeing Cyberpunk return to its tabletop roots and be met with this level of enthusiasm,” Asher McClennahan, Kickstarter’s head of games, said on the platform’s blog post. “For a franchise with this kind of legacy, the response says a lot about how eager fans are to connect with the world they love in new ways and how powerful crowdfunding can be in bringing those new experiences to life.”

With more than two weeks to go, who knows how high the Cyberpunk TCG campaign can reach?
