Dylan Darling couldn’t be the hero for St. John’s for a second straight game.
Days after hitting a buzzer-beater to give the Red Storm a second-round win over Kansas, Darling’s game-tying 3-point attempt with less than five seconds to go bounced off the rim as No. 1 Duke advanced to the Elite Eight with an 80-75 win over No. 5 St. John’s.
The Red Storm still had a chance to get the game to overtime in the waning seconds thanks to Duke’s struggles at the free throw line. Isaiah Evans starred for Duke, but he made just one of two free throws before Darling’s 3-point attempt. And Cameron Boozer missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 32 seconds to go.
