I wear them to work layered with white button-ups and on the weekends with my color-happy adidas platform Gazelles. Abercrombie & Fitch High-Rise ’90s Relaxed Jeans
After getting these babies personalized with my initials, you better believe I wore them everywhere this past winter — even foregoing an outfit switch when attending post-work cocktail receptions, given just how formalized Abercrombie’s High-Rise ’90s Relaxed Jeans can look once teamed with a sharp-shouldered blazer and your go-to slingback heels. Heavier than most other jeans I have in my weekly rotation, this pair is nonetheless one of the comfiest: due in no small part to the way it eases through the thigh, creating a look that’s equal parts relaxed and structured.
Despite all this, the jeans can still be classified as “straight-leg,” and one of the reasons I’m most drawn to them is that butt-hugging action (making the ’90s-inspired Abercrombie release a sexy springtime nonnegotiable). Can you tell I have a soft spot for Mother Denim, which recently launched a campaign with the ultimate mother, Martha Stewart? The love affair is shameless, and, besides The Reifler Jeans, a model I keep turning to again and again is The Kick It. I own this wear-everywhere denim (32-inch inseam; clean hem; semi-rigid cotton and elastane makeup) in the medium blue, intentionally faded Which Is Witch wash, but I’m eyeing the much more fabulous Totally Innocent hue for my spring break plans. Good news: Khloé Kardashian and Emma Grede’s circa-2016 denim brand Good American, which prides itself on inclusive sizing, sustainability, and top-tier quaity, is sold at Anthropologie. And though when it comes to shopping at the viral retailer, I’m a The Colette Wide-Leg Jeans girlie through and through, these tiger-printed marvels are encouraging me to make the switch to more exotic and lovingly eccentric denim (the upcoming season, and all of its newness, demands nothing less). “A straight-leg jean isn’t too far of a departure from a skinny, as they have the same fit on top,” explains Tim Kaeding, co-founder of Mother Denim. “The term ‘straight-leg’ is somewhat loose because there isn’t an exact point at which they have to go straight. Some straight-legs go straight starting at the hip, others at the thigh, and some can even start at the knee. It’s an easy transition to make if you were [once] a skinny-jean wearer.”
