Camila Morrone Gives Black Suede Studio’s Mules a NYC Edge

Though a California native, Camila Morrone embraced quintessential New York City style on Thursday, stepping out in an all-black look. The outfit was decidedly minimalist, but the actress’ peep-toe mules — one of the season’s key footwear trends — added a point of interest.

In the midst of promoting her new Netflix miniseries, “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen,” Morrone slipped into Black Suede Studios’ Shania mules for the morning outing. Handmade in Brazil, the silhouette sits on a pin-thin 100mm stiletto heel and features an almond-shaped peep toe. The heels were made from satin crepe — an of-the-moment finish in the footwear space this spring. Black Suede Studios’ Shania mules are also offered in a cheetah satin style for a more statement-making take on the trend.

The peep-toe comeback is undoubtedly fueled by the industry’s ongoing appetite for nostalgia. While the silhouette dates back to the 1940s, it hit its stride in the early 2000s, beloved by celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Lindsay Lohan and Jennifer Lopez. Much to the surprise of Millennials, the trend reared its head on the spring 2025 runways, seen at shows like Tory Burch, Khaite and Fendi, among others. More recently, a new wave of fashion darlings — including Morrone, Madison Beer and Natalie Bryant — has embraced peep-toe pumps.

On Thursday, Morrone styled her peep-toe mules with a black midriff-baring quarter-sleeve top featuring a high neck, paired with a tailored pencil skirt. She forwent jewelry, opting instead for sleek black wraparound sunglasses. Her long brunette hair was worn straight with a middle part, alongside soft, subtle makeup.

“Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen” also stars Adam DiMarco, Gus Birney and Jennifer Jason Leigh. The new horror series follows Rachel (Morrone) and Nicky (DiMarco) as they travel to his family’s rural cabin for their nuptials. However, things take a turn when the bride-to-be begins to sense that something sinister is about to unfold — as the title suggests.
