David Suzuki changed the world. Why can’t he take the win?


Well, that’s what he has said all along, isn’t it? It’s a funny thing: Suzuki is thought of nowadays as primarily a climate-change activist, an important figure in bringing the issue of greenhouse gas emissions to public attention. He can’t be denied credit for this, but one wonders why he can’t give this credit to himself. Climate policy has had a bad few years politically, but carbon-counting and permitting are permanent features of civilization now, and Suzuki, in a lighter mood, could celebrate technological changes that are pointing the way to a very-long-term post-fossil-fuel future: electric vehicle adoption, affordability and greater integration of solar and wind power, and the revival of clean, reliable nuclear energy as a …
