Team Carney front benchers hit the hustings in St. John’s, Ingersoll and Edmonton

What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.

For the first time since embarking on their respective international trips last week, both Prime Minister Mark Carney and Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre are set to remain off the public radar today, with Carney midway through the European vacation that will reportedly include a stay in Italy, while Poilievre heads to New York, where he’s scheduled to kick off the third and final leg of his tri-state tour tomorrow.

According to his X feed, Poilievre wrapped up his two-day visit to Texas with a tête-à-tête with Governor Greg Abbott at his official residence in Austin, during which he “advocated for Canada’s workers and businesses,” during a conversation that, according to Abbott’s press office, also focused on “boosting trade ties, especially in regard to Canada and Texas’ booming energy industries.”

His next scheduled appearance will at the Harvard Club of NYC tomorrow night.

Back in Canada, Defence Minister David McGuinty continues to highlight his government’s bid to boost defence spending — this time, at IMT Precision in Ingersoll, Ont., where he’ll share the details of “investments in ammunition production in Canada.” (10 a.m.)

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Sean Fraser kicks off a two-day swing through St. John’s, Nfld., with an afternoon stop at Solace Power, which bills itself as “a global leader in high-performance, industry-leading wireless power technology” before making his way to Memorial University’s Signal Hill campus for the Mel Woodward Cup, which “helps accelerate the most innovative and high-potential student-led startups at Memorial University.” (4:30 NT)

Later tonight, he’ll headline a $350-per-ticket fundraiser for the Cape Spear Federal Liberal Association alongside local Liberal MP Tom Osborne. (6:30 NT)

Also on the ministerial circuit:

  • Secretary of State (Nature) Nathalie Provost and Quebec City-area Liberal MP Jean-Yves Duclos team up to promote the government’s latest “affordability measures” at a “volunteer tax clinic” being held at the Patro Laval community centre. (2 p.m.)
  • Emergency Preparedness Minister Eleanor Olszewski provides an update on what the advisory describes as her government’s “ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernize search and rescue capabilities nationwide” during a morning event at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Enoch, Alta. (10 a.m. MDT)
  • Rounding out the roster, Team Carney front benchers Marc Miller and Evan Solomon join Calgary’s lone Liberal MP, Corey Hogan, at an evening reception at the Artist Lounge, with all proceeds from the $500 entry fee earmarked for the Calgary Confederation Federal Liberal Association. (6 p.m. MDT)

ON AND AROUND THE HILL

Konrad Adenauer Foundation Canada director Bernd Althusmann joins University of Ottawa Information Integrity Lab researcher Alex Dalziel hit the West Block press theatre to release a new report, Inclusive Information Security in the Transatlantic Arctic: Integrating Indigenous and Northern Knowledge and Capabilities, which, as per the advisory, “argues that misinformation and disinformation campaigns across Canadian and Swedish arctics are very much present and important to pay attention,” and warns that, while “misinformation is widely detected; disinformation is suspected but more difficult to confirm and attribute.” (10 a.m.)
