When flying economy, creature comforts are few and far between. This makes the small differences from airline to airline all the more important, since it’s a game of inches. Recline is one of the most basic yet valuable amenities offered by airlines, and while it’s somewhat negligible on one or two-hour flights, it’s a necessity on long-haul routes like those from the United States to Europe or Asia. As such, it becomes increasingly important not just that an airline offers recline, but also how much recline these seats feature.
Asian carriers are routinely ranked as being some of the world’s best airlines with the world’s most comfortable seats, and as such, it’s not surprising that these airlines also offer more recline than other carriers. Depending on the airline, these economy seats may even offer more recline than premium economy on some other airlines. In addition, these airlines offer more recline on widebody aircraft than on their narrowbodies. These are the airlines that offer the most recline in 2026.

Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A350-900s
Six Inches Of Recline In Economy
Singapore Airlines is often ranked as the world’s best airline, only ever giving up this ranking to Qatar Airways. As such, it not only offers excellent premium products, but it also offers among the world’s best economy experiences, with more legroom and comfortably wide seats on many aircraft. The Airbus A350-900 is Singapore Airlines’ largest fleet, with 65 examples, and they’re split between the regional A350s, long-haul A350s, and the seven A350-900ULRs. The long-haul A350s feature economy seats that offer six inches (15.24 centimeters) of recline.
In total, Singapore Airlines flies 34 A350-900s in the long-haul configuration, and these planes are the backbone of its long-haul operations. They slot underneath the carrier’s Boeing 777s or Airbus A380s in size, making them ideal for routes to lower-demand cities in Europe, Australia, or Africa, and with their incredible range, they’re also used to operate nonstop services to the United States West Coast, as they can fly further than any aircraft in Singapore Airlines’ fleet other than the A350-900ULRs.
While other airlines offer the same amount of recline, Singapore Airlines ranks last on this list as only 23% of its passenger aircraft are equipped with these seats. The rest of its fleet features economy seats with five inches (12.7 centimeters) of recline. On the long-haul A350-900s, Singapore Airlines installs the Safran Z300, configured nine-abreast, and also offers 32 inches (81.28 centimeters) of pitch.

Etihad Airways’ Airbus A380s And Boeing 787s
Six Inches Of Recline In Economy
Etihad Airways’ Airbus A380-800s are best known for their spacious single-aisle first class cabin named “First Apartments” as well as the three-room Residence. Down below, however, the Airbus A380 also features economy seats with an incredibly generous six inches (15.24 centimeters) of recline. These seats are based on the Safran (formerly Weber) 5751, and they’re unique for featuring a privacy wing on one side, with Etihad being the only airline to offer this in economy. In addition, these seats are nearly 19 inches (48.26 centimeters) wide due to the width of the A380’s lower deck.
Etihad debuted this interior standard, which also includes its forward/rear-facing Business Studio, with the Airbus A380, but it’s also present on the carrier’s Boeing 787 fleet. As per aeroLOPA, most of the carrier’s Boeing 787-9s and all of its Boeing 787-10s are equipped with the Safran 5751, including the generous recline and the privacy wing. However, these seats are significantly tighter than those on the Airbus A380 due to the Dreamliner’s narrower fuselage, and Etihad only offers an average 31 inches (78.74 centimeters) of pitch on its widebodies.

Etihad operates a small fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs, which feature older cabins with less recline in economy. The carrier’s Airbus A350-1000s debuted a new interior standard that includes the Recaro CL3710 in economy, still featuring the privacy wing, but with five inches (12.7 centimeters) of recline. Etihad’s seven newest Boeing 787-9s also feature the Recaro CL3710 with the same amount of recline, and future aircraft deliveries are likely to be equipped with the same seats.

Beyond some Asian airlines, the best way to get extra space between other economy class passengers is to focus on the aircraft type.

Cathay Pacific’s Long Haul A330s, A350s, And 777-300ERs
Six Inches Of Recline In Economy
Like several Asian carriers, Cathay Pacific operates dedicated subfleets of widebodies for regional flights, flying alongside narrowbodies (the Airbus A321neo in Cathay Pacific’s case). For Cathay Pacific, these aircraft are 20 Airbus A330-300s and all of its Boeing 777-300s. Meanwhile, 23 Airbus A330s, along with all of its Airbus A350s and Boeing 777-300ERs feature long-haul configurations. This includes lie-flat business class seats with direct aisle access and economy seats with six inches (15.24 centimeters) of recline.
All of Cathay Pacific’s long-haul configured aircraft offer the same amount of recline in economy, although the seat models vary by aircraft as per aeroLOPA. The Airbus A330-300s feature the Safran (formerly Weber) 5751, while the Airbus A350-900s are equipped with the Collins Aerospace Pinnacle. Meanwhile, the Airbus A350-1000 is equipped with the HAECO Vector, while the Boeing 777-300ERs feature the Recaro CL3710. The 777-300ERs have the same seat model as the 777-300, and the regional A330s also feature the Safran 5751, although there are differences on the regional planes.

In addition, the Airbus widebodies offer 18-inch (45.72-centimeter) wide seats, while the Boeing 777-300ER, with its tight ten-abreast layout, only has seats that are 17.3 inches (43.942 centimeters) wide. Furthermore, all Cathay Pacific aircraft offer seatback screens.

Emirates’ Airbus A350s And Boeing 777s
Six Inches Of Recline In Economy
Emirates is most famous for its Airbus A380 fleet, which boasts features such as showers for first class passengers and an onboard bar for premium passengers. Down below, however, you’ll find that, while the screens are the largest of any airline in economy, Emirates only offers four inches (10.16 centimeters) of recline, as per aeroLOPA. While still good, this is one of the few areas where the carrier’s Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 fleets best the A380, as the economy seats on both aircraft types offer six inches (15.24 centimeters) of recline.
Emirates currently operates 17 Airbus A350-900s, and holds orders for an additional 57 units. In economy, Emirates installs the new Safran Z400, featuring a 13.3-inch (33.782-centimeter) seatback screen and a generous 32 inches (81.28 centimeters) of pitch. As is the case with all Airbus A350s configured nine-abreast (the standard economy layout on the A350), the seats are 18 inches (45.72 centimeters) wide. Emirates operates two subfleets of A350, which differ in galley configuration and the size of the premium economy cabin.
The carrier’s Boeing 777 fleet is significantly more varied. There are 129 777s in total, split between 10 777-200LRs and 119 777-300ERs. Emirates has been refurbishing the cabins on some of its 777s, installing the Safran Z400 in economy while also retrofitting new seats in business class and installing a premium economy cabin. However, regardless of the seat model, all of Emirates’ Boeing 777s offer six inches (15.24 centimeters) of recline in economy, including both the 777-200LR and 777-300ER.

Qatar Airways’ Airbus A380s
Seven Inches Of Recline In Economy
Qatar Airways is known for competing only with Singapore Airlines for the title of world’s best airline, year after year. This is due to products like the carrier’s segment-leading QSuite business class product, which remains one of, if not the world’s best business class seats, despite being nearly nine years old, as well as excellent onboard service and little touches. In economy, however, the seats offer the same amount of legroom as most airlines, and are roughly the same width.
What’s most notable about Qatar Airways’ Airbus A380s is that they offer economy seats with seven inches (17.78 centimeters) of recline. This is among the best of any airline. These seats are based on the Recaro CL3710, and each one is 18 inches (45.72 centimeters) wide as per aeroLOPA. In addition to the recline, these seats also come with a 10.6-inch (26.924-centimeter) touchscreen display, although legroom is average at 31 inches (78.74 centimeters).
The Airbus A380 is the only aircraft in Qatar Airways’ fleet to feature seven inches (17.78 centimeters) of recline; however, several other planes offer only slightly less, at six inches (15.24 centimeters). This includes most Airbus A330s, older Airbus A350-900s, most Boeing 787s, as well as former Virgin Australia and Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300ERs (which still maintain their original interiors). In addition, Qatar Airways’ narrowbodies offer only three inches (7.62 centimeters) of recline.
