Liberal candidate in Terrebonne byelection hopes to reclaim riding on April 12

TERREBONNE — Liberal candidate Tatiana Auguste is hoping to be elected in the April 12 byelection in the Montreal-area riding of Terrebonne, and this time, for good.

Auguste opened her riding office in the Montreal-area riding today, telling supporters she wants Terrebonne to be part of the solution and have a voice at the decision-making table.

Elections Canada had declared Auguste the winner over the Bloc Québécois’ Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné by a single vote following the April 28 federal election last year.

Sinclair-Desgagné challenged the results after a supporter complained that she had tried to vote by mail using a special ballot that was never counted.

The Supreme Court of Canada invalidated last year’s result in a February ruling. That set up a rematch between Sinclair-Desgagné and Auguste next month.

Terrebonne is one of three byelections with two others will be held in Liberal strongholds in the Toronto ridings of Scarborough Southwest and University—Rosedale.

Auguste reassured Terrebonne residents that consultations would be held about the high-speed rail project between Quebec City and Toronto, which will pass through the Quebec riding.

Auguste says among her priorities are the construction of affordable housing, and the prevention of youth delinquency.

Auguste said she had learned a great deal during her brief time in Parliament and intends to continue “the work that has been started.”
