Tyler Bilodeau is OUT for Saturday’s game versus No. 18 Purdue

Don’t look now but the UCLA Bruins have now pulled off four wins this season over Top-10 teams. UCLA has had plenty of chances, playing in the loaded Big Ten and facing Arizona and Gonzaga in nonconference games, with the Bruins going 4-3 against Top-10 teams.

UCLA’s latest Top-10 win came against Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans, with UCLA getting a 88-84 win in the Big Ten Conference tournament quarterfinals on Friday. The Bruins got the win with Tyler Bilodeau playing just 10 minutes before injuring his knee and not returning.

Ben Bolch of the California Post has announced that Bilodeau will not play in Saturday’s semifinal game against Purdue but Bilodeau is on the table for next week’s NCAA tournament, with his diagnosis being a mild right knee sprain.

Donovan Dent has been otherworldly over the past few weeks for UCLA but it’s hard to imagine the Bruins having a prolonged run in the NCAA tournament without Bilodeau.

“To win this game with Tyler only playing 10 minutes is monumental for us. Monumental for us,” Mick Cronin said during his postgame press conference. “I thought the guys didn’t flinch. I was proud of them for that.”

UCLA didn’t get major contributions from Xavier Booker, as the former Spartan fouled out without scoring in 14 minutes. For the Bruins to have a chance against Purdue, and in the NCAA tournament, without Bilodeau, UCLA will need more from their frontcourt. Brandon Williams played well off the bench for Cronin and Steven Jamerson played just two minutes in the win.
