She is widely known not just for performances in shows like “Married . . . With Children” and “Dead to Me,” and movies like “Anchorman” and “Bad Moms,” but for health challenges including breast cancer and multiple sclerosis. But in “You with the Sad Eyes,” Applegate reveals what she hid behind the persona.
That includes a childhood riven by violence and molestation, and difficult teenage years marked by anorexia, abuse and self-destructive behaviour.
But as she told Janet Somerville in the Star, she wants the book to start “community conversations about child abuse, about rape, about generational trauma, about breast cancer, about all this stuff that a lot of us have been through.”
Her book is No. 1 on a list jam-packed with women’s memoirs, including one by soap opera and reality TV star Lisa Rinna, who dishes on the highs and lows of her career in “You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It.”
That would be Liz Tomforde’s “In Her Own League,” which uses baseball as its setting. Its heroine is Reese Remington, first female team owner in Major League Baseball, who is both intrigued and repelled by the club’s attractive field manager, Emmett Montgomery, in classic enemies-to-lovers fashion.
