Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is coming to the Switch 2 later this Spring, features bubble-blowing freaky fellas you can eat

Nintendo has released a short gameplay trailer for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, a new side-scrolling adventure game coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on the 21st May.

This game, in which Yoshi explores various strange locations with the help of giant talking book Mr.E (short for encyclopedia one assumes). You need to go through his pages and discover various odd creatures, including a hoop-mouthed bubble-blowing thing. You can watch the new gameplay trailer yourself below!

Yoshi, obviously, eats one on first encounter. The game then breaks down how it tastes to eat this poor creature, and provides a beautifully drawn illustration of Yoshi spitting out a bubble after the fact. Interacting with these creatures, naming them, and discovering all they can do appears to be the crux of the charming-looking platformer.

First announced in September of last year, the game is being released as part of Mario’s 40th anniversary. It continues the legacy of prior Yoshi games, championing a wonderful visual style and generally artistic aesthetic. Just take a look at some of the animation work on those weird creatures!

The game is currently for sale for £49.99 or your regional equivalent. You can pre-order it now on the Nintendo Store.
